For those planning services involving burial or entombment, a casket is used to contain the body in a safe, dignified manner. A casket is not necessary for cremation; however, a casket made of wood or combustible material may be used if a traditional viewing is to be held prior to cremation. A leak-resistant, combustible, alternative container is the minimal requirement for direct cremation (cremation without a viewing).

The first decision to make when selecting a casket is between wood and metal. Wood caskets are available in Cherry, Oak, Maple, Beech, Poplar and Pine. Due to rainforest depletion, we do not offer Mahogany caskets. Metal caskets are available in Bronze, Copper, Stainless Steel, 18-guage Steel, or 20-guage Steel (gasketed or non-gasketed*). Bronze, Copper, and Stainless Steel do not rust, and many prefer these caskets because of this quality.

Another important consideration in casket selection is size. If a person is large around the middle, their arms may appear oddly positioned in a standard-sized casket. We offer several caskets that are larger on the inside than a standard casket, but can fit in a standard burial vault or mausoleum crypt. A heavier person appears more relaxed in a casket that is the proper size. Larger caskets are available, as well as larger burial vaults to accommodate them.
