Establishment
Resthaven Funeral Services, Skkot Cody P.A.
was licensed by the Board of Morticians as a
funeral establishment in 2001, co-located in the
office of Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Inc.
Currently, services held at Resthaven
usually take place in the historic-themed Chapel
Mausoleum at Resthaven. The Chapel Mausoleum is
situated to the left when entering the grounds
from Route 15 N. Parking is available all around
the Chapel.
In
2006, Resthaven Memorial Gardens acquired from the
State of Maryland the 9-acre property to the
immediate north of the cemetery that had formerly
been a picnic area with a boat ramp on the
Monocacy River. The State had closed the area in
the early 1980’s.
Cemeteries have an important place in our
society as a final, eternal resting place for each
of our mortal remains and those of everyone we
love. Therefore, cemeteries have an equally
important responsibility to society to plan on a
much longer timeline than other institutions do.
Plans are under way for environmentally
sustainable construction of a new, LEED-certified
office building with a chapel, visitation rooms,
reception area and ample parking. Groundbreaking
is expected in Spring 2009. The new building will
overlook the slope down to the river, and will
allow a beautiful setting for reflection and
solace.
Resthaven
Memorial Gardens has had an on-site crematory
since 1985. This crematory was upgraded and
rebuilt in 2003 to be twice as efficient on fuel.
The new building will have a new crematory located
behind the chapel, allowing for a beautiful,
dignified cremation service.
